The paper carries most of the impression before a word is read. Matt stock is quiet and hides handling; gloss makes photographs and strong colour look their best. The special papers — laid, textured and coloured stocks — are felt before they are seen, and are the reason someone turns a card over.
Lamination protects the surface, spot UV raises one element off it, and gold print does the same in metal. All three work on a logo. None of them works on a paragraph.
Set text at least 4 mm from the trim edge. Cards are cut in a stack, and a name sitting close to the edge will not land in the same place on every card in the box.
